I made an AMAZING cake for Justin's 31st birthday.
It is a chocolate rum bundt cake, and it has become my tradition to make it for Justin every year. It is good. Really good. Apparently too good, because my 5 year old couldn't resist all that delicious powdered sugar on top.
After I instructed him to 'not touch' and that we'd eat it 'after dinner' I found him with a guilty expression on his face.
He had rotated the cake stand slowly around as he licked the powdered sugar off all the way around the cake! Oh, the life lessons we must learn! My boy learned the hard way that good things come to those who wait... and his impatience meant he had to miss eating a slice of cake with us after dinner. Let me tell you, that was hard to do. Try telling a 5 year old they can't have cake! While I believe that was the right call to make, following through with a natural consequence to total cake-licking, I have to admit that I can't blame him. I can put down about half this cake just by myself. Note to self: Keep cake on top of the refrigerator next time... it is just too tempting.
I cut off the licked parts and sprinkled on new powdered sugar.
"Happy birthday dear Justin, happy birthday to you!"
"Happy birthday dear Justin, happy birthday to you!"
Justin got to wear two "medals" that the kids made for him. They awarded him for being such a super Daddy.
Justin thought he could come up with a way to blow out the candles while not blowing off the powdered sugar, but as you can see from the haze in this picture it didn't work. After inhaling a few breaths of powdered sugar we (most of us) got to enjoy a slice of birthday cake.
