Mother's day
William's birthday
Justin's Graduation
Award Ceremonies
Vera's Dance Recital
William's "Author's Tea" at school
Vera's end of school party
William's end of school party (I'm Room Mom, so this means doing the planning and coordinating... most of which I did before Patrick was born thankfully!)
Toss in a doctor appointment for the kids and another friend's birthday party...
Whew, aren't I glad we weren't doing soccer this season.
Oh, and wearing the cute 7 week old to all said events.
I'm not super woman... I'm pooped!
And I could use an extra large cookie or brownie.
And now I'll share pictures from today: class party and garden time
So today was William's class party, and now that it's over I can take one of those nice "ahhh" breaths because the pressure is off my shoulders to entertain a classroom of 1st graders for an hour. Here's what we did:
Cup stacking races!
Gum drop and toothpick towers/art.
(William made a transformer face while his buddy made some sort of minecraft castle)
They used straws to blow cotton balls through a tape maze on the table.
Thanks, Pinterest, for the "minute to win it" type ideas :) Now William will be going to 2nd grade...!!!
So that brings me to this evening... I got to unwind by working in the garden. Justin tilled our garden earlier in the week, which made it like a beautiful blank canvas. I grabbed moments here and there to plant, and this evening Justin held Patrick so I could spread a bunch of straw to try to keep weeds down (since I am NO good at getting out there to weed).
The newly strawed garden. Coming up soon will be cucumbers, luffa, okra, sweet potatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, herbs, tomatoes, zucchini, and I still have some acorn squash and pumpkins to plant.
The BEST things to grow are the things that come back every year and need little to no maintenance, like the blackberries (above) and the blueberries (below).
The strawberries looked lovely until the deer started eating their leaves and the chickens devoured the fruit.
That green spot has some lettuce and beets... and LOTS of weeds (it's what the whole garden looked like before Justin tilled).
These rose campions are one of my favorite, easy to grow, spreading-through-the-yard, long blooming flowers.
They also make a great backdrop for beautiful ballerinas who are ready for a recital (She is thrilled to be done with ballet, by the way, and ready to go back to gymnastics and indoor soccer. She is NOT thrilled to be done with school, however, and keeps bursting into tears as she misses her best friend).
My lemon balm is doing what I wanted it to do... spreading down the side of the shed.
The chickens (and lack of care) destroyed most of our spring plantings, but the sugar snap peas are coming in like crazy! And chickens, you're going to have to stay cooped up during planting season, girls... no more eating up my seeds and the tops of my lettuce!
Ahhhh.... this summarizes my afternoon. A dirty, not very lady-like hand holding a crisp, just-picked snap pea. SO sweet and delicious.... and just what I needed to refuel.
