Reuse

(This is not mine)

I saw this amazingly adorable before and after kitchen on Pinterest about 2 years ago.  Ever since I have had my eyes peeled for the perfect nightstand or small entertainment unit that I could transform into something equally precious. I held on to one of our old faucets to use in my future play kitchen, and I had a bowl in mind for the sink.  After the faucet sat unused for about the 23rd month, my husband, Justin, finally convinced me to "let it go."  I did, and wouldn't you know it... I found just the right piece of furniture to transform about one month later.  Oh well, thus goes life.

Justin's parents passed us Justin's old nightstand, which was just a simple cabinet painted white.  I had big plans to try to find a new faucet, some more hinges, saw the doors in half, get some knobs, etc. etc., but then I remembered my super Mommy powers only stretch so far, and I best do with what I've got! which was some enamel paint.  And so, with my daughter Vera's guidance on paint colors, we transformed the white nightstand into our very own outdoor play kitchen.
Simple and sweet, and perfect for making up mud pies or berry-acorn stew.
One of my vivid memories as a child is walking through the yard with one of my Mom's pots and filling it with water, berries, grass, and leaves.  I was very proud of my concoction, and I loved to pretend I was cooking up delicious delicacies.
Maybe I'm just as excited as my kids about having an outdoor play kitchen... but that's ok.

  1. You had me at "Reuse." And it's totally okay if you were to be MORE excited than your kids are about this kitchen. Absolutely adorable.
