I'm not much of a baseball fan. In fact, I think it is my least favorite sport. I was very excited, however, to take the kids to their first baseball game today because a friend of ours from church sang the National Anthem!
Yay Elaine Wade! She did great, and we were so happy to be there to hear her sing.
The anthem wasn't the only good part of the game, though. Justin and I each bought the kids cotton candy, unawares that the other had just purchased some, which meant LOTS of cotton candy to be had by all.
Also, the stadium is one of the only locations from which you can see Atlanta's largest circumference tree (this made Justin very very excited, as he is a tree and statistic lover... and I like trees too). This Southern Red Oak has a 23 feet circumference. That's pretty big.
Silas has recently learned to say "coca cola," and so he had loads of fun saying it constantly as we passed coca cola everything, including this giant coca cola bench.
The kids got to run a base (three times since they enjoyed it so much).
We had a lovely view of Atlanta (and lovely children to look at as well).
And to top it all off it started raining halfway through the game, which for me was just fine since the weather was nice and cool (and I had fun watching the crew cover up the field with the big tarp). I loved watching how my eldest son worked hard to keep dry, but my daughter, on the other hand, was drenched from head to toe after galloping and playing in this massive puddle. William says he never wants to go to another game if it is going to be rainy, and Vera says the rain was "GREAT!"
This was one of those fun "All American" sorts of afternoons. I'm excited to go to another game this season, because we'll have a teenage daughter from Germany to take with us next time! In a few weeks we will be hosting 15-year-old Lea as an exchange student for the 2014-2015 school year. We can't wait to share moments like these with her!
