Medieval Security

What does a husband do when he is home for a few days after the arrival of a new baby?  Well, if your husband likes to dig random pits in the yard like mine does, he might just decide to add another hole during his time off from work.
The good news is that this pit has a function.  It is directly in the path leading to the front porch, and so, as you can plainly see, it serves as a sort of moat or trap for bad guys, dragons, or monsters to fall into if they are trying to get into our house.
But in case a thief (or two year old) were able to scale the pit, my ingenious husband also removed the stairs leading up to the front porch to add yet another obstacle to deter unwanted guests.
Well, I'm sleeping better at night knowing our home is more secure now.

Believe it or not, I'm excited about this hole... it's actually going to be an extension of our pond with a cute little bridge crossing it to get to the front porch (which will someday have stairs again).  Justin and I like dreaming up fun ideas for our house, and sometimes we jump into executing those ideas when we don't quite have time to finish (yes, I do it too), but some day they come to fruition.  In the mean time, I get to laugh at the idea of our medieval security system.  And I'll take bids on when you think the pond and stairs will get finished :).

  1. This reminds me of the time in our town house when yall were over and Chris mentioned that he wanted to extend the deck. So the first step was to remove the boards of the deck by the door and raise or improve the supporting joist. So before I knew it Chris and Justin took out all the boards. The funny thing about this was it all happened a week or two before I had knee surgery. So when we left the house for the surgery the stairs were still missing. Chris had to run home during the surgery and reattach the stairs. Oh funny memories, and so very Justin.
