Kids and chores

I asked Silas, my 3 year old, to put our couch cushions back on the couch and throw away his string cheese wrapper. He likes to pull the cushions off to jump on the couch, so returning them is a natural clean-up chore.

After approximately 15 minutes he had replaced one cushion and pulled the couch away from the wall to excavate the hidden contents of the "under the couch world." 

About 5 minutes later he emerged as I reminded him to finish his job.

After another 5 minutes or so the couch was back against the wall.

Another reminder 5 minutes later...

I guess he found that under the couch.

Another 5 minutes and another reminder...

"Silas, please finish your task.."

Roughly 35 minutes after I asked him to put the cushions on the couch and throw away his trash.

He did it!

Then the trash! And that, my dears, is why getting 3 year olds to do chores takes more work than just doing it yourself. But follow through mamas... Just be careful what you ask them to do!

And then he and Baby Patrick unloaded the pots and pans to make music. I think I might clean those up myself.
