Chicken integration has begun!
Chicks produce a mighty large amount of dust.
Our basement is covered in it.
Time for them to get outside as soon as possible.
Chickens are really serious about their pecking order...
I mean really serious.
If we throw our chicks into the coop with the adult chickens,
they'd be goners for sure.
Step one is "see, but don't touch."
The chicks explored outside the coop while the hens stayed inside.
Then they got to switch places so the chicks can start to get their scent into the coop.
The only hazard we ran into was when William decided his favorite chick needed to use the hen feeder as a swing. The chick was unharmed, but it did result in a bunch of spilled food and a broken feeder (thankfully, easy to fix).
Lastly, our garden. Anywhere you see dirt is a near miracle. This big patch of green growth is our tenacious volunteer cherry tomato plants. I pull up large handfuls every time I visit the garden. This remaining patch will have to go once we get a chance to plant the rest of the garden. Anyone want some cherry tomato plants? My advice is plant them in their OWN garden.
I've really been enjoying harvesting and drying our chamomile (which volunteered itself from last year). I love volunteer plants... except the cherry tomatoes!
