Winter Farm is full of growing things!
The chicks are in what I call the "teenager stage."
Somewhere caught between chick and hen.
They have been living outside with the big chickens, but a dog crate with a very small door allows only them to enter to eat their food or get away if they are getting pecked at too much. The chicks still haven't been fully accepted, but they aren't being bullied too much either. Hopefully they'll start laying for us in August.
Our sugar snap peas are growing up the fort. The kids enjoyed snacking after dinner on delicious peas. Our cucumber seeds are now young plants, just beginning their journey to climb up the other side of the fort.
We planted cauliflower for the first time this year... and it seems to be working!
We also planted brussel sprouts for the first time... and they're sprouting!
Another first for us, red potatoes. They are starting to bulge out of the ground.
We have lots of kale and lettuce that won't last much longer as the days get hotter. If you want some, please come and get it! Notice our volunteer sunflowers and zinnias growing along with the kale and lettuce. I'm a big fan of lovely flowers coming up on their own.
Peas in one hand, a basket of sunflowers (and asparagus) in the other. Life is grand.
Our blueberries are just starting to turn blue. Between the kids and the chickens, they can hardly finish turning blue before they get picked (or pecked)!
