Happy Birthday Grandma

On June 5th we celebrated my Grandma's 90th birthday.  Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren gathered to celebrate (we missed you Lilly and Josh, Kristin and Sarah, and Josh!)
Here is my Grandma, Lynn, with her children Lisa, John, and my mom, Nancy (who is wearing a dress that Lynn made a long time ago).

Here are Grandma's grandchildren (and spouses...there are 6 grands). We were just missing Lilly, Lisa's daughter, but she was able to call in from Chicago during the party to wish Grandma a happy birthday (as well as celebrating in person when she passed through town a few weeks ago).

Here are the Great Grandchildren (except Sarah, my brother Evans' step-daughter).  Vera is wearing a dress that Grandma and I made when I was about 9 or 10 years old.

My mom planned the birthday celebration, and she made it especially unique by having us all bring things that Grandma had made, since she is a wonderful seamstress, knitter, cross stitcher, and more.

Grandma's handiwork was displayed around the edges of the room.  You can see my mom's old prom dresses that she made hanging in this picture!

Not only is Grandma extremely talented with arts and crafts, she has a lovely voice and is a well-learned musician (she majored in the Organ). She is generous and loving, and has provided all of us with a fabulous vacation house on Fripp Island, SC for many years.  She keeps up with what her grandchildren and great grands are up to and never misses celebrating their birthdays with cards and gifts.  My Grandma is sophisticated and Southern, a good listener, and respected by our family.  She also reads my blog, and whenever I sit down to write one I always think of Grandma sitting at her computer looking at what I have to say.  Well, right now what I want to say is that I have the most amazing Grandma, and I love you!

Oh, and to top off all her wonderful qualities, she was also the grand prize winner in a "Most Beautiful Baby" contest! Here is my brother, Reese, showing off her photo and trophy from 90 years ago.

We had not one, but TWO cakes to celebrate this occasion.
My mom did a great job planning this party and adding details that honored my Grandma.

Thanks to my stepdad, Jim, this 1926 Studebaker was parked out in front of our party.  We posted a sign in the window that says "Lucky to be born in 1926, the same year as Lynn!" My Grandma and Grandad's first car was a 1950 Studebaker.

Happy Birthday, Grandma!

  1. Such a neat idea to celebrate and display things she had made over the years.
